Awakening Retreat: Chicago Summer 2026

Summer in Chicago is alive with energy, movement, and possibility. Along the shores of Lake Michigan, days unfold between sunlit beaches and a skyline that rises just beyond the water.

This is a retreat shaped by contrast—nature and city, movement and stillness, exploration and reflection. Through it all, we gather, create, and experience the city together—finding inspiration in both place and connection.

At the heart of the retreat is a Botanical Cyanotype Workshop led by artist Laurie Buman. Using botanicals, light, and layered materials, you will create a one-of-a-kind piece of art—no experience needed. The workshop concludes with a private viewing and cocktail reception at Galeria Azul.

We also explore Chicago’s rich cultural landscape, from the vibrant Pilsen neighborhood—home to one of the largest Mexican communities in the country—to the National Museum of Mexican Art, with meals at authentic local restaurants and a curated tequila tasting from a woman-owned brand.

A retreat where art, culture, and community come together—inviting you to create, connect, and see the city in a new way.

“I delight in the spontaneous outcomes of my intuitive process. Through cyanotype, I guide others to explore that same sense of discovery and unexpected beauty.”
